Poker Dice

OVERVIEW

Poker Dice is an exciting take on the massively popular card game Poker but this game substitutes the cards for Dice. Players compete one-on-one to score the most points by creating poker hands using five special dice. Players roll the dice, choose to hold any dice (if needed) and then re-roll the rest. Players then match the resulting Dice to a poker hand on the score card and place their score.

A beautifully simple and exciting game and just like most games takes a little practice to be a master.

The aim is to beat your opponent with the number of points you gain from rolling the dice and producing the best poker hands.

    HOW TO PLAY

Two players take it in turn to roll a set of 5 dice. Each player gets 2 rolls each. On the first roll the player can choose to hold any dice they wish to and then re-roll the rest for their 2nd roll. The resulting five dice are then used to score the players points.

The idea is to throw a selection of Poker Hands and Score the highest points to win.

    SCORING

    POKER DICE HINTS AND TIPS

Play this exciting mix of dice with the massively popular card game Poker. Hold the dice to score your hand. check out some of the hints and tips below to help you to become a Poker Dice winner.

Tip 1 - The value of the bonus

Achieving the bonus for the upper section is under estimated, by achieving or exceeding 15 points in this section you will score a bonus of 3 points. This may not seem high but can make all the difference between winning and losing.

If after a few rounds you have little chance of making the bonus, then it's best to concentrate on achieving the high scoring categories in the bottom section and using the top half to mark off failed bottom half scores.

Tip 2 - The Full house

Do not take risks to attempt to get a full house early in the game. In general, full houses often come spontaneously, without effort.

    Tip 3 - The Straight

The chance of rolling a straight in your first roll is just over 3% whilst the chance of rolling 4 of a kind in one roll is just over 2%. This would suggest that it is easier to roll a straight than a 4 of a kind.

What you have to be careful with here is if you miss the straight you were aiming for your score is likely to be lower than if you miss a 4 of a kind. Simply because aiming for a 4 of a kind could leave you with a max score of 3 whereas missing the straight could only score you a max of 2 (and that's if you have not already scored everything in the top half)

Try to go for a straight when you have the best chances this would be by rolling 10, J, Q, K this way you have 2 chances to get your straight with either the 9 or the Ace.

  • Main Poker Dice Rules
  • Tip 4 - What to choose?

It's your final roll and you only need a straight. Your first roll gives you K, K, A, A, A, which should you keep?

    • The Ace and King together
    • Ace on its own
    • King on its own

It's marginal but you have a 1% better chance of rolling a straight in your second throw if you keep the King, by doing this it gives you two potential chances at hitting the straight (9, T, J, Q, K) and (T, J, Q, K, A)

    Tip 5 - Probabilities

    • The chance of converting a pair to 5 of a Kind is 1 in 216.
    • The chance of converting 3 of a Kind to a 5 of a Kind is 1 in 36. (1/6 x 1/6)
    • The chance of rolling a fill in number 9, T, J, K, A, (need the Queen) the chance of you rolling the Ace again, and getting the queen is 1 in 6 or 16.66%.
    • If, however, you have rolled T, J, Q, K, Q and still going for the straight your chances are 2 in 6 or 33.33%

    Points to Remember

    1.     The maximum score you can achieve in this game is 56, includes completing all the top section with five of each and receiving the bonus.

    2.       An average score in this game is around 29 points and a good score is 30 or more. You would be unlucky to lose a game having scored 35 points.
